Shuswap Sugaring

FAQs

What is body sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient form of hair removal using a natural paste made from sugar, lemon and water. Because of its natural ingredients, the paste will only stick to dead skin and hair - never live skin cells, which results in less irritation.

YES! Any type of hair can be sugared. It is even safe for all stages of pregnancy!

I have sensitive skin, can I be sugared?

How long do I have to let my hair grow?

How often should I get sugared?

Is there anything I need to do before my sugaring appointment?

Everyone will be a bit different but usually every 4-6 weeks for areas below the waist. You may want to get your underarms and face done more often than once a month. Again, everyone's growth will be a bit different.

Please avoid exfoliating the area we are sugaring the day before and the day of your appointment. I also ask that you avoid applying any deodorants and moisturizer the day of your appointment.

A LOT! But let me break it down for you:

Sugaring is made of all natural ingredients; SUGAR, LEMON and WATER. It will only stick to dead skin and hair - never live skin cells. VS waxing can adhere to live skin cells because of chemical additives in the paste.. Therefore it can be more irritating thus causing skin to feel more raw.

The sugar paste is kept at a lukewarm temperature, never hot, so it will never burn your skin. VS waxing is heated to a much hotter temperature running the risk of burning the skin it adheres to.

Sugaring is a lot more gentle on the skin. The paste is applied AGAINST the direction of your natural growth and removed with the direction of your growth - directly from the root everytime. This greatly reduces the chances of ingrown hairs and skin irritation. VS waxing tends to break hairs which can potentially cause more ingrown and irritation.

When sugaring, no sticks or strips are involved, only a single ball of sugar paste on a gloved hand. The ball of sugar is used over and over until it is no longer pliable. There is ZERO chance of double dipping this way and it is better for our environment. The sugar paste is removed with a unique “flicking” technique that removes your hair from the root, giving the longest lasting results. VS Waxing uses multiple strips and sticks.

What is the difference between sugaring and waxing?

Over time, yes! If you stick to a dedicated sugaring routine (with no shaving between treatments), the hair follicle will be damaged therefore producing less and less hair over time. You’ll notice when your hair does return, it is softer and more sparse with each visit.

Can I be sugared while on my period?

Super common question and the answer is YES! Just be sure to use your diva cup or wear a tampon and tuck the string in. The only downfall is that you may be feeling a little more sensitive than usual. Many women have mentioned how they feel awkward and I PROMISE you that I am 100% comfortable with anyone coming to their appointment during their periods - I mean, I am a girl too! Come as you are!

Can I be sugared while I am pregnant?

Absolutely! Sugaring is safe at all stages of pregnancy.

½” - about the length of a grain of rice. If you were previously shaving, this is about 10-14 days of growth.

Will sugaring stop my hair from growing back?
